There’s a lot of great stuff on this page — including the presentation about our building project and the capital campaign that will fund it (click on the logo above), pictures of the building project and a really nice introduction to our Trustees.  BUT, if you’ve heard all that or just want to get to it…

Building for our Second 200 Years

Have you been to Sandy Beach for Easter SonRise?

To the Sailing Club for a summer service?   On-line for worship or Sunday School during the pandemic?   In the Sanctuary for a Christmas or Easter Cantata?   In Bates Hall for a wreath, ornaments and some chowder… or a strawberry shortcake in June?  Have you simply spent time among your friends at the church?

Second Congregational Church thrives on our involvement in the life of this vibrant town.  And yet, who could miss the peeling paint or aging railings as we gathered with the community on the front steps of our church this past Christmas Eve?

Our building is old.  It is weathered.  It is cared for more carefully than appearances may suggest.  AND there are some things about a historic wooden structure on the New England coast that demand more comprehensive work.

In 2024, Second Congregational Church of Cohasset will celebrate our 200th anniversary.  By then, new paint will be but the shining outward sign of our investment in the next 200 years.  Our windows will look out at the Historic Cohasset Common without wiggling in the wind or dropping panes when the glazing gives way.  We’ll stand proud as the church bell rings in celebration, observance or memory.  We’ll be confident that those who walk through our doors will have safe, secure and appealing access – whether using the ADA approved ramp-access side entrance or stepping through the front portico.

You may know that we were awarded a $50,000 Community Preservation Act grant from the Town of Cohasset in May.  We matched $50,000 because we treasure our place and participation in Cohasset’s Common.  Rejoicing in that generous gift, we also know how much more there is to be done.

In “Building for our Next 200 Years,” Second Congregational Church seeks to raise a minimum of $200,000 to repair, restore and preserve our historic building.  In the process, we also hope to renew old friendships and inspire excitement in our Common purpose.  Will you help?
