REGATHERING
I love Sunday mornings… the quiet moments before the gates are thrown wide and the wonder of the Sabbath starts in earnest… happy voices in the hallways heading off to prepare for the day… the jolt of excitement as the morning’s ministry begins.
I’m off to teach Second Family Bible School. We’re starting with the stories from the Book of Genesis and today’s lesson is the Creation Story. I love that Second Family is for everyone – children with their parents, grandparents, those without kids and those who miss having them around. It was such fun to set up the chapel for this! These are such great stories to share.
I hear Jin and Konstantinos in the sanctuary getting ready to bring today’s amazing music. The choir is arriving for rehearsal and I smell the coffee already brewing… and is that cinnamon coffee cake!?!? I wonder who is doing fellowship today. I saw the flowers as I set up the pulpit – what a beautiful way to share good memories and best wishes.
We may have to start printing announcements to keep the time down during service, but I’m excited that there are so many ways to get involved. The Crafty Ladies will be ramping up soon, with Christmas Fair on the not-too-distant horizon. And, of course, there are all sorts of projects to tackle in the community and around the church.
Personally, I’m plugging for a new youth-led Tech Team to take our video ministry to the next level and kick our social media presence into gear. If we do it right, there may even been school credit for their work on that project!
There’s another team talking about “Fun Night” events. I’m in to host the campfire as soon as I confirm the date! And I expect I will have unpacked enough of the dining room to be a host home for next month’s Progressive Dinner… or maybe I’ll just attend.
Confirmation kicks off in just a few weeks. I expect I will learn as much as the students. I always do and this time all the “places to visit” are new. There is Vedanta and Glastonbury Abbey, of course. And does anyone know the Rabbi in Hingham? Or the Imam at the Islamic Center in Quincy? I wonder what the kids will decide to prepare when we go to Father Bill’s?!?!?
I’m going to miss worship at the Sailing Club. This summer has been so much fun. But I’m also grateful for September’s return to what, for us, will be “the new normal.” I like the structure of regular time – meetings on Tuesdays, Adult Ed on Wednesdays, Choir on Thursdays and the like… The steady and predictable that give our lives rhythm and pace.
We are done with transition. May God bless this new life we’ve begun.
See you in church!
Pastor Karen
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying…
‘See, I am making all things new.’ (Rev 21)
